IRD US Announces $250,000 Grant for the Gulf Coast Community Service Center

Gulfport, MS — November 21, 2006 — IRD US’s Gulf Coast Community Service Center (GCCSC) has been awarded $250,000 from the state of Mississippi’s Department of Human Services, IRD US announced today. The grant is part of $86 million allocated by Congress to rebuild the Gulf Coast, recently released to the state of Mississippi.

IRD Expands Avian Flu Activities in Ukraine

Washington, DC — November 1, 2006 — The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded a one-year grant of $200,000 to International Relief and Development (IRD) for avian flu activities. Under the new grant, IRD will continue activities in Crimea, begun with a small grant in February, for another year and extend similar activities to four more regions affected by avian influenza.

IRD to Begin Working in Laos

Washington, DC — October 31, 2006 — International Relief and Development (IRD) has been awarded a $999,885 contract to implement a United States Department of Agriculture program aimed at improving educational opportunities and nutrition of primary school children. The award is a sub-contract from the Humpty Dumpty Institute (HDI).

USAID RENEWS SHIPPING SUBSIDY TO IRD FOR RELIEF COMMODITY DISTRIBUTION

Washington, DC — October 20, 2006 — International Relief and Development (IRD) has received confirmation that its Ocean Freight Reimbursement (OFR) participation has been renewed by USAID.  OFR is a two-year program operated by USAID and is used to help defray costs for overseas transportation originating in the USA for voluntary humanitarian relief shipments for commodities distributed to people in need around the world. The subsidy is for $114,000 over the two-year cycle of the program.  IRD first received permission for OFR in FY2005-06.  The total value for the goods shipped by IRD, via OFR over the past two years, was over $5.7 million dollars.

IRD Receives Grant to Aid Villages in South Lebanon

Washington, DC — October 10, 2006 — The British humanitarian aid agency, Department For International Development (DFID), has awarded IRD a grant in the amount of $843,847 to provide assistance to vulnerable conflict-affected households in southern Lebanon adversely affected by the conflict between the Israeli Defense Forces and Hezbollah. This four-month long project will focus on ten rural villages in the Tyre District of southern Lebanon.

Washington, DC — November 15, 2005 — International Relief and Development recently attended the 15th Annual Trade Fair hosted by the Serbian Unity Congress (SUC) in Las Vegas, NV from November 1–13, 2005 and chose the occasion to announce a unique Mentoring Program that aims to tap the skills of the American-Serbian business community and bring the Serbia Diaspora closer to development initiatives in Serbia. IRD Delivers Truckloads of Supplies to Vietnamese Community in East Biloxi, MS

East Biloxi, MS — September 16, 2005 International Relief and Development, Inc. (IRD), in conjunction with Heart to Heart International, delivered and distributed two shipments of relief supplies to a Vietnamese community in East Biloxi, MS. IRD is working to re-establish livelihoods, reconstruct community infrastructure and distribute relief and medical supplies to those most impacted by the hurricane. Mozambique — August 5, 2005 — IRD has launched the “Mulheres Primeiro” (“Women First”) program in Mozambique. The program aims to train educators who can in turn train their peers to conduct activities in both HIV/AIDS awareness and in micro-finance. IRD Responds to Earthquakes off Coast of Indonesia

Washington, DC — March 31, 2005 — International Relief and Development, Inc. is actively responding to the strong earthquake that occurred off the west coast of Sumatra Island in Indonesia on March 28 at 11:08 p.m. local time. The earthquake, registering at a magnitude of 8.7, has been followed by approximately 36 aftershocks ranging from 4.7 to 6.1 in magnitude. Initial reports indicate that the islands of Nias, Simeulue and Banyak were the areas most affected by the earthquake with over 500 confirmed deaths and thousands of persons displaced.
