IRD Prepares to Help Those Affected by Hurricane Ike

U.S. Gulf Coast — September 12, 2008 — As Hurricane Ike bears down on the Gulf Coast, IRD is preparing to provide case management and other assistance to those in its path. Staff from IRD's Gulfport-based Gulf Coast Community Service Center is already in Baton Rouge to assist with Gustav response. drawing on the experience from providing case management services to victims of Hurricane Katrina for the past three years.

IRD Gulf Coast Staff Ready to Assist in Wake of Hurricane Gustav

Baton Rouge, Louisiana — Updated September 4, 2008 — In the wake of Hurricane Gustav, officials lifted roadblocks and tens of thousands residents returned despite widespread power outages, Reuters reported today. IRD staff from our Gulf Coast Community Resource Center, based in Gulfport, is already in Baton Rouge to assess damage and provide critical disaster care management services, and have added two full-time positions to assist with the response. An additional assessment team from headquarters will arrive to assess damage tomorrow.

IRD'S Construction Trades Training Center Hosts USAID Administrator Fore in Afghanistan

Jalalabad, Afghanistan — April 22, 2008 — Today, a delegation with USAID Administrator Henrietta Fore; the French, Norwegian and British Ambassadors to Afghanistan; the Director of the United Nations Movement and Access office for Afghanistan and World Bank and Asian Bank representatives visited IRD's Construction Trade Training Center (CTTC) in Jalalabad. The purpose of the visit was to review the the U.S. rebuilding effort's best practices in Afghanistan in preparation for the Paris Support Conference.

IRD Awarded $44 Million USAID Grant to Build Peace and Mitigate Conflict in Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia – March 1, 2008 – IRD began implementation of a program funded by a $44 million grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development to provide programmatic, administrative, and logistical support for USAID’s SERASI strategic grants and technical assistance program to mitigate social conflict and support peacbuilding initiatives across Indonesia.

IRD Sends Assistance to Ukraine After Methane Explosion

Washington, DC – November 26, 2007 — USAID is providing $50,000 in emergency funding to IRD for the provision of emergency assistance to the families of Ukrainian miners affected by a November 18 methane explosion. The explosion occurred in the Zasyadko coal mine, located approximately 450 miles southeast of the capital of Kiev in the Donetsk Oblast. According to recent media reports, the explosion and subsequent fire killed 89 miners and another 10 are listed as missing. MORE>>


IRD US Honors the Case Management Workers Rebuilding The Gulf Coast Of Mississippi

Gulfport, MS — September 17, 2007 — Through the work of its Gulf Coast Community Service Center in Gulfport, IRD US will hold the 2nd Annual Partners in Long-Term Recovery Appreciation Luncheon today to honor the people rebuilding Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. Mayor of Biloxi A.J. Holloway, as well as representatives from the offices of Senator Trent Lott and the mayor of Gulfport, will attend the luncheon at Mississippi’s Beau Rivage Casino and Resort.

Gulf Coast Community Service Center Announces Two New Grant Awards

Gulfport, MS — August 6, 2007 — The Gulf Coast Community Service Center (GCCSC) has been awarded two new grants to expand its case management services, IRD US announced today. The Salvation Army has awarded the Center more than $10,000 in order to build organizational capacity for assisting Gulf Coast residents, and the Enterprise Corporation of the Delta (ECD) has awarded the Center a subcontract to provide specific financial counseling and case management.

IRD and SunNight Solar to Provide Light to People in Developing Countries


Washington, DC – July 23, 2007 – IRD announced today that it will help light the world by partnering with SunNight Solar to provide long-lasting, solar-powered flashlights to people in developing countries. The partnership will help address this need by supplying one BoGo (Buy One, Give One) Light to internally displaced persons in South Sudan and refugees in Chad for every flashlight purchased in a developed country. IRD Assists Victims of the Darfur Crisis in Eastern Chad

Eastern Chad – June 11, 2007 – IRD is currently accepting cash donations for the victims of the violence in Darfur and eastern Chad. Donations will be used to support projects covering a wide range of areas such as direct food and non-food item distribution, agricultural assistance, training in animal husbandry, and nutritional support for women and children.

IRD Receives Grant to Help Displaced Persons in Northeastern Sri Lanka
